| The International Foundation for
Election Systems provides professional advice and technical
assistance in promoting democracy and serves as an information
clearinghouse on elections, rule of law, governance, and civil
society.
The end of the Cold War in 1989 created opportunities for firms
such as IFES to respond to an overwhelming demand for technical
non-partisan expertise in democracy and governance. IFES has
proactively sought to meet the needs and requests of USAID,
the U.S. Department of State, bi-lateral donor agencies, foundations,
local NGOs and governments from Central and Eastern Europe through
competent, professional and timely assistance in often challenging
environments.
