The
first round of the early
presidential elections
in Macedonia has been
scheduled
for April 14th, Parliament
Speaker and acting president
Ljupco Jordanovski stated
at yesterday's press conference
in Skopje.
"Elections
will take place on 14
April, Wednesday,"
Parliament Speaker and
acting President Ljupco
Jordanovski said, adding
that he signed the notice
for elections late on
Monday at 19:00 hours.
Consequently, the 40-day
deadline for electing
a new president commenced
on Monday.
Jordanovski
voiced hope that we will
have fair and democratic
elections that will enable
the citizens to express
their will and choose
a president.
He called upon the contenders
in the presidential race
to maintain dignity and
run fair campaign.
"These
are early presidential
elections, therefore we
have amended the Law on
Electing President. I
am confident that the
country will get a new
president in the first
or in the second election
round,” Jordanovski told
the press.
He
added that two dates were
possible for conducting
the elections – 15 April
or 16 April. The first
option, 15 April, was
not picked because the
eventual second election
round would have coincided
with May 1st holidays.
The days when the ballots
will be cast will be declared
as non-working days. The
Parliament will not convene
for sessions in the course
of election campaign.
